To help with this process, we’ve included vocabulary on a diverse range of subjects, from describing character and feelings to describing towns, the countryside and buildings. All the topics in Vocabulary Boost are subjects that you are likely to want to talk or write about. You can really can improve your English vocabulary in just 30 days!
Useful words with different meanings
We’re also confident that we’ve provided you with the sort of words that will allow you to express lots of different things within those subjects. So in Vocabulary Boost, you won’t find endless lists of hard-to-remember synonyms. Instead, you’ll find a range of really useful words that all convey something different. For example, on Day 8 (Walking and Running), you’ll find a verb for walking quickly and confidently (stride), one for walking slowly, for enjoyment (stroll) and another for walking deliberately quietly, on the top parts of your feet (tiptoe). On Day 11 (Describing People), you’ll find an adjective for someone with untidy hair and clothes (dishevelled), one for someone who is thin and weak (slight) and one for a strong, wide, short person (stocky). (You’ll find others too!) In other words, you’ll be able to express a range of things within the given topic.
Another way in which vocabulary can impress is when you can express very precise details. For example, you’ll already know how to say that it’s raining, but Days 6 and 7 will give you words for very heavy rain and very light rain. They’ll give you a word for extremely hot weather and weather that is less cold than you would expect. With Vocabulary Boost words, you’ll be able to say precisely what you mean.
